Trench Safety & Shoring Systems Shoring Systems are devices designed to provide for a quick and simple means of securing a safe and productive environment during trenching or excavating work. Most cave-ins occur in conditions where a superficial inspection of the site indicated no apparent chance of a trench collapse. In fact, the vast majority of cave-ins actually occur in clay based soils where failures are not anticipated, as opposed to sandy conditions where failures are expected and watched for. As well, most take place in trenches between five and fifteen feet in depth, where many falsely believe they can quickly escape form a trench wall collapse. For these reasons, protective shoring systems have been developed.
